Uni Research

Scouting online for courses I’d like to do following my year 12 graduation I found 2 schools, Falmouth University and Southampton University, both offering the same course on popular music performance and production. I find the content of this course exciting and after visiting Southampton in February I was given a full tour of all the music and arts facilities and met a lot of the staff I could potentially be working with, all working to a very functioning high standard in a structured environment.

I went to Falmouth University in December to see the facilities there on a college trip, and although I got a very decent look at the other artistic courses there like games design and fine art, I never got the chance to see the musical department. In March, I travelled back to Falmouth to see these facilities and also to get a look at the accommodation, and the environment in the music department was very similar to Southampton although they seemed less organised as I was moved from one tour to another as my name had been mixed up on registers. The accommodation there was near identical to that at Southampton, but the housing was cheaper in Falmouth if I moved out after the first year, and there were more jobs available in the town.

On the train back from Falmouth, I had both my unconditional offers from Southampton and Falmouth in front of me to decide where id like to go, and I have chosen Southampton as they seemed more organised, they are much closer to home in the case of emergencies, and I will also still be able to do the same course by the sea regardless of my decision.
